Continuous line drawing _’A sense of place’
Drawn in one, four-hour sitting, this continuous line drawing is of Wokingham Rd in Reading, Berkshire.
I lived just off of this road, on the right-hand side, and I enjoyed walking around the corner to the local shops. The University Campus was up the road, and in the other direction I could walk to Cemetery Junction and into town from there.
Living here is a moment in my timeline, which is also part of many other’s, as we converge on this bustling street.
The drawing is a moment in life, and one which you know is ongoing. People move in and out, businesses come and go, some remain. The street sees the ebb and flow, and the memories are traced in the architecture.
The wobbly nature of the continuous line drawing helps to allude to this memorial quality of reflecting on a placed once lived. It is now more distant and less precise, but you can still trace the sense of place.
Framed ink pen drawing on paper.
